Trails are mostly open (the flyover bridges are temporarily closed) and work is 95% complete with just punch list items remaining.

Dogs must be kept on a leash at all times unless using the dog park enclosures. Like after any outdoor experience, always check yourself and your pet for ticks following your visit. Crossing Twining Road is strongly discouraged - please use the Twining Road tunnel near the main parking lot to get from side of the park to the other.

While the entire park is open to leashed dogs, the Twining Valley Dog Park offers 3 separate enclosures (based on your dog's weight) for off-leash recreation. There is a parking lot adjacent to the dog park area - address is 1487 Twining Road, Dresher. Registration for the fob system is posted at the dog park and on social media, the Township's website and the UDP&R website. Access to water is planned but dependent upon the Sunny Willow Swim Club project (described below) as there is no public water available in that portion of Twining Road. Two reminders for when using the dog park: 1. Please be sure to keep your dog on a leash until you have entered the transition corral area and 2. Remember that dog parks are for socialized dogs, not to socialize your dog.

The park now boasts nearly 6 miles of trails! There are two types of trail surfaces - 8' to 10' wide asphalt (present on both sides of Twining Road) and 4' wide dirt singletrack (present on the building side only). Trails can be accessed from behind the former clubhouse building or from the dog park parking lot - there is a tunnel under Twining Road that connects the asphalt trails on the two sides. Both trail types are open to walkers, runners, hikers, bikes and other non-motorized wheeled forms of transportation (e-bikes are permitted). For those on bikes, please alert others when you are approaching them from behind and do not exceed 15 mph. Directional signage and maps are coming very soon to help you navigate the trail system as well as benches and trashcans.

One unique aspect of Twining Valley Park versus many other Upper Dublin Township parks is the integration of active and passive recreation amenities into a naturalized setting. Naturalization efforts of the property continue to be managed and supported by Township staff, volunteers and contractors. Work is focused on removing non-native invasive vegetation, promoting the growth of native plants and creating habitat. You'll notice lots of oak, maple, sweetgum and cherry saplings all over the property. This is very encouraging, but a great deal of work will be needed to prevent invasive plants from smothering the native vegetation. Join us at upcoming UD C.A.R.E.S. events to help with this important work.

The Township has a preliminary agreement in place with the SWSC Board to create a formal park access point from the SWSC property, but due to the Township still navigating the process of rebuilding/renovating the Township and Public Work Buildings, those discussions are temporarily on hold until the final cost of those projects have been determined. In the meantime, staff has applied for a state grant to offset some of the agreement costs. Construction documents were previously developed so if/once an agreement is reached, grants to support the construction of the connection can be applied for almost immediately.

Due to vehicular speeds and its challenging location in a valley, a roadway surface pedestrian crossing at Ayr Lane and Twining Road will not be permitted by PENNDOT. The Township is looking at constructing a tunnel in that location to enable safe access into the park. This is an expensive and challenging endeavor that Township staff will continue seeking solutions for including grant funding.

The bike playground, the first Phase 2 project, is already fully-funded by various grants and should begin construction in the fall or spring 2024. This amenity is geared towards children 5th grade and younger and will be able to accommodate bikes, scooters, big wheels, wheelchairs and skateboards. Exploration on foot will also be encouraged.

5 dedicated pickleball courts are planned for the park. The project has already received 50% funding through a PA DCNR grant. The Township was unsuccessful in receiving a Montgomery County grant, but will be seeking other grants and/or funding the remaining project cost through its capital budget in the future.

The Township currently has 2 submitted grants it is awaiting news on for funding of a pumptrack. The pumptrack would be for all ages and its asphalt surfacing would enable use by bikes, skateboards, scooters, adaptive wheelchairs and roller blades.

Future park plans include public restrooms, pavilion and a naturalized playground. Grants will be pursued for each of these amenities to fully pay for or off-set Township costs for construction. Until restrooms are built, a port-a-pot is available in the main parking lot. UDP&R will be exploring the possibility of making the building's restrooms available on weekends beginning in the fall.

No long-term plans have been made for the former clubhouse. The space is currently being used by UDP&R to supplement space lost due to the damage sustained at the Township and Public Works Buildings. The future of the building will be publicly discussed prior to any decisions being made.
